The Arc'teryx Proton Hoody is a breathable synthetic-insulated midlayer built for climbing and high-output mountain activities. Its 80gsm Coreloft™ Compact insulation works together with an air-permeable Fortius™ Air 20 face fabric and a 20d recycled nylon lining to regulate temperature and manage vapour build-up during movement.

The articulated patterning removes restriction, and the helmet-compatible insulated hood extends warmth where it is needed. This updated version uses a PFAS-free FC0 DWR treatment, a Fortius™ Air 20 face fabric with 42% recycled nylon, and Coreloft™ Compact insulation for improved stretch and breathability.

Frequently asked questions

What is the back length and chest circumference for size M and L?

Size M: back length 77.1 cm, chest circumference 118.0 cm, hem circumference (relaxed) 110.0 cm. Size L: back length 79.6 cm, chest circumference 125.6 cm, hem circumference (relaxed) 117.6 cm.

How does the fit of the current Proton Hoody compare to the older Proton LT Hoody in size M?

The previous Proton LT Hoody fits slightly smaller than the current Proton Hoody. In size M, the Proton Hoody measures 118 cm chest width, 108 cm waist width and 110 cm hem width, while the Proton LT Hoody measures 116 cm chest width, 106 cm waist width and 108 cm hem width.

Can the Proton Hoody be worn as a midlayer under a shell for skiing?

Yes. It can be worn as a midlayer under an waterproof shell for cold, windy or changing conditions, or on its own for spring skiing or milder days. Its breathability is an advantage during high-intensity activity, while a windproof and waterproof outer layer is essential during low-intensity or long static periods.

Does layering the Proton Hoody over an Atom or a shell add warmth?

Layering the Proton Hoody over an Atom or a shell adds a small amount of warmth from the extra synthetic insulation, but it is built as an air-permeable midlayer designed to release heat during movement rather than trap it, so it does not retain heat like a purpose-built belay jacket.
