The Arc'teryx Beta Jacket is a durable, highly versatile mountain shell built with a 3-layer GORE-TEX ePE membrane and an 80D face fabric. The waterproof, windproof, and breathable construction is free from intentionally added PFAS, and the C-KNIT backer adds comfort against the skin. A low-profile StormHood adjusts to provide coverage while maintaining lines of sight, and articulated patterning removes restriction through the shoulders and arms. A RECCO reflector can aid in search emergencies, making this shell a reliable companion for a wide range of mountain pursuits.

Designed as an uninsulated shell, the Beta layers easily over a fleece or down midlayer for cold conditions while remaining light enough for milder days. The FC0 DWR finish helps water bead off the face fabric, and the 80-denier nylon construction resists abrasion from backpack straps and hip belts. Available in a range of colors and sizes from XXS to XXL, it is a straightforward, protective layer for hiking, skiing, and everyday wet-weather use.

Frequently asked questions

Is the Beta Jacket suitable for winter?

Yes, it works well in winter as an uninsulated 3-layer GORE-TEX shell. It provides complete protection from wind, snow, and moisture, but warmth depends on the layers worn underneath. With a down or fleece midlayer, it performs well in cold conditions while remaining versatile for milder or active days.

What is the waterproof rating of the GORE-TEX membrane?

The GORE-TEX membrane used in the Beta Jacket is tested to a 28,000 mm water-column rating for waterproof performance. No numerical breathability value such as MVTR or RET is assigned, as lab tests vary by method and do not reliably reflect real-world performance.

Does the jacket pill when wearing a backpack?

No, the Beta Jacket does not pill from backpack use. The durable, tightly woven 3-layer GORE-TEX face fabric resists abrasion and friction from straps and hip belts, and the surface is not a knit, so there is no loose fiber structure to pill.

How should I care for the GORE-TEX waterproofing?

Wash the jacket regularly and reapply the Durable Water Repellent (DWR) treatment when needed. Dirt, oils, and sweat can compromise performance over time. If the face fabric stops beading water, the DWR needs refreshing; this does not affect the waterproofness of the GORE-TEX membrane. For heavy use, wash every 5–8 days of use; for light use, every 10–20 days.
